Officers from the Westminster Community Safety Unit are appealing for information following a homophobic assault during the Euro Pride event on Saturday 1 July.

At approx 1640 the female victim was walking with her girlfriend in Dean Street W1, near to the junction with Bateman Street when an unknown man approached them, attacked the victim and made a homophobic remark.

There was a large crowd of people due to the day’s celebrations, but the man was able to run off along Bateman Street, into Frith Street and then towards Soho Square W1.

The man is described as having a Mediterranean appearance, in his late 20s, of stocky build and is approximately 6’02 in height, with cropped (almost shaven) dark brown / black hair.

At the time of the assault he was wearing a crew neck black T-shirt; black jeans; black shoes/boots with laces. He also had a small square/round beige plaster on the left side of his neck.

DC Katie Buchanan, leading the investigation based at the Westminster Community Safety Unit, said:

“This was an unprovoked attack on a woman who was with her partner out enjoying the celebrations on that Saturday afternoon. The police are keen to speak with anyone who witnessed this incident or knows of any information, which might assist the investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the CSU on 020 7321 9388.
