18 July 2006Gay asylum group push for Iranian protection + The UK Lesbian Gay Immigration Group has written to Liam Byrne, the Home Office Minister responsible for immigration, requesting the suspension of removals to Iran of lesbian and gay asylum seekers.The Group has urged the Minister to ensure that no Iranian lesbian or gay asylum seeker be removed from the UK whilst there are genuine concerns that those suspected of having gay sexual relationships are at risk of persecution. -
18 July 2006Gay campaigners back UN membership + Around 100 gay campaigners and support groups have signed a petition calling on the United Nations to approve consultative status for four lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) organisations.Organised by John Fisher, of Canadian gay group, ARC, the document aims to ensure the International Lesbian and Gay Association (ILGA), the Danish National Association for Gays and Lesbians, the Lesbian and Gay Federation in Germany, and ILGA-Europe, are recognised as non governmental organisations. -

18 July 2006Legislator sues university over gay partner rights 1 In papers filed this past week, gay legal group Lambda Legal asked the Butler County Court of Common Pleas in Ohio to dismiss a lawsuit brought by a legislator seeking to take away the domestic partner benefits of employees of Miami University because the legislator has no legal standing to sue."Mr [Tom] Brinkman has no legal standing to bring this lawsuit because it makes no difference in his daily life when the domestic partners of lesbian and gay university employees have health insurance," said James Madigan, lawyer for Lambda Legal's Midwest Regional Office in Chicago. -

18 July 2006Police appeal for help after homophobic assault + Officers from the Westminster Community Safety Unit are appealing for information following a homophobic assault during the Euro Pride event on Saturday 1 July.At approx 1640 the female victim was walking with her girlfriend in Dean Street W1, near to the junction with Bateman Street when an unknown man approached them, attacked the victim and made a homophobic remark. -
18 July 2006Gay community to remember hanged teenagers + Labour MP Chris Bryant will be hosting a meeting at the House of Commons tomorrow evening to mark the first anniversary of Iran's hanging of two gay teenagers.Mahmoud Asgari and Ayaz Marhoni were publicly executed in Iran last year, because according to the regime they were rapists, however gay campaigners insist the boys were killed under Sharia law for the crime of homosexuality.
