Bar and club owners have been criticised in the past for hiking up prices for Pride weekend and this weekend’s Europride will be no exception. However, one promoter is offering an alternative to the hiked up prices if you journey South of the River Thames.
Running for the eleventh year in a row, South London performance and club night Duckie is running their Gay Shame special. This year, the event will have a European theme and has been renamed EuroShame.
Hosted by BBC radio presenter Amy Lamé, visitors will be treated to twenty five live installations each vying for some of your “pink Euros” that you receive in exchange for your £15 entry fee.
Some of the highlights will include the opportunity to increase your body hair at the Cypriot barbers , confess your sins to Italian nuns and assemble some Swedish flat-pack furniture.
Simon Casson, promoter of EuroShame told PinkNews.co.uk: “We won’t be hiking up our bar prices. Its £3 a pint or £3.50 for a spirit and mixer, the same as any other Saturday night. But we can only fit 1,500 people so get there early!”
A spokesperson for G-A-Y bar told PinkNews.co.uk: “our prices will be the regular Saturday night prices but we’re expecting to be rammed.”
However, a number of bars in Soho are understood to be increasing their prices this weekend in reaction to an increase in demand from LGBT tourists.
EuroShame is at the Coronet, 28 New Kent Road close to Elephant and Castle tube. Tickets are £15 in advance and on the night. Advanced tickets can be purchased from Retro Bar off the Strand.
