AIDs Walk San Diego has announced that due to enhanced and early organising efforts, it is ahead of past years in terms of number of registered teams and individuals.

“With this year being the 25th anniversary of the first reported cases of AIDs, I believe the increased participation in AIDs Walk illustrates that our San Diego community remains absolutely committed to fighting this epidemic,” said Jennifer Jones, director of development for The San Diego Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Community Centre, organiser’s of the walk.

The annual AIDs Walk San Diego will take place Sunday 1 October 2006 in Balboa Park. It is the largest one-day HIV/AIDS fundraising event for San Diego County HIV/AIDs service organisations.

“As more and more San Diegans understand the impact of severe cuts in government funding to our local HIV services and programs, they are stepping up to the challenge of meeting that funding gap by registering early for AIDs Walk,” Ms Jones said.

“We are tremendously grateful for their efforts, and hope more and more individuals and teams will continue to register and raise the critically-needed funds for San Diego County HIV/AIDs service providers.”
