5 June 2006Bush backs gay marriage ban 4 US President George W Bush has used his weekly radio address to voice support for a constitutional amendment which would ban gay marriage, ahead of a Senate vote on the issue.The amendment, which would prohibit states from recognising same-sex marriages, needs a two-thirds majority in the Senate and House, and then would need to be ratified by at least 38 state legislatures before becoming a law. -

5 June 2006Gay community urged to ensure faith support 13 The Green Party's lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) group is calling on the gay community to respond to the Government's Equality Bill consultation on whether to ban discrimination against LGBT people in the supply of goods and services such as hotels and charitable services.They are worried that extreme religious groups might persuade the Government to exempt them from any obligations under the new law on grounds of religious faith.
