  1. ‘Hijra’, rather than ‘Eunuch’, is the name which most of these people prefer. The Hijra community includes castrated males, recently adopted males preparing to undergo surgery, and people who are born intersexed.

Yes thats true, but most people in Europe dont know what Hirja means, and many aspects of their lives are unique to India. Although the term is roughly paralel to that of the eunuchs of old.Its always been unclear to me whether, people who have undergone modern SRS surgery in India, are considered Hirja.I have read some extremely bad news reports, about violence, murder and rape of Hirja from India. Which makes me wonder why this is never recorded on the worldwide remember our dead day in November. Or is it? Like us here in Britain they have adverse employment discrimination, hence the begging instead of social security. Not all Hirja rely on charity, and I cannot believe that they embarase people at weddings so much that they have to be paid to go away. Isnt it supposed to be good luck, to have them at a wedding, where they are entertainers, and do a traditional song and dance act. Yours Allena TyrrellBest wishes for 2007.
