A Jersey lobby group has launched a campaign for civil partnerships on the Island.

Progress Jersey is pushing for legal recognition of gays and lesbians in long term partnerships.

A spokesman for the group told the Jersey Evening Post, “I think it’s a civil rights issue and we are trying to get a level playing field.

“For too long gay people have been seen as second class citizens and that is not right in this day and age.”

The group is currently putting together a submission to present to States Members.
