A member of the Federal Government has pledged his support for the Australian Capital Territory’s (ACT) same sex union proposals.

Liberal MP, Warren Entsch called the plans, which would be a landmark for Australian law giving recognition to gay couple’s relationships, a positive move.

The representative for Leichhardt in Queensland, said: “Refusing to acknowledge that there are long-term commitments given by two individuals, albeit of the same gender, and the emotional commitment and financial commitment that they make, is putting your head in the sand.”

Plans for an Australian civil partnership law are being led by the leader of the ACT John Stanhope, he said the bill will “essentially create domestic relationships.”
