Gay star Boy George has escaped jail over cocaine charges by agreeing to enter a drug rehabilitation programme and a community service scheme.

The Eighties singer had charges of possessing 5g of cocaine dropped by the Manhattan Criminal Court after he was arrested in the USA last October, he did however plead guilty to wasting police time.

The former Culture Club front man will now enter a drugs programme in England and perform five days community service in Manhattan. The artist, real name George O’Dowd, will have to pay a fine of $1000 and must avoid being arrested for six months.
