It is very difficult to capture the science, the sensitivities behind IVF treatment and the distress many couples do face in a theatre production. I don’t think Djerassi’s writing is strong, just the subject matter and in my opinion the play was driven by a superb cast. The humour in the first half helps to draw the audience into the characters’ worlds and we can begin to sympathise with and understand the two opposing views presented by them. The second act was stronger and I don’t think enough time was given by Djerassi to satisfactorily conclude it. I agree that there are no simple solutions to these issues but the audience does deserve to have a more solid ending.I’m glad I saw this production but it was difficult to locate much promotional information about it, shame.
