A Brighton Hove Councillor has suggested erecting pink plaques to celebrate the gay contribution to the city.

Green Party cllr Bill Randall welcomed blue plaques to commemorate significant people or buildings, and feels that the ‘gay capital’ of England should also recognise the significance of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) population.

Cllr Randall said: “Recommendations for pink plaques should come from the city’s LGBT community, who should be invited to nominate a representative to join the newly formed commemorative plaque panel.”

His proposal comes at the beginning of the annual UK LGBT History Month which runs through February.

“When enough plaques have been put up they should be linked together in a gay and lesbian heritage trail,” he said.
