I think it is an embarrassment for major western countries such as the U.S., UK and elsewhere. Civil unions/partnerships are definitely NOT marriages. Until that is changed and governments behave responsibly and in an adult manner, they cannot claim to have equality for all of their citizens let alone democracy. Full marriage equality grants equality, no question about it. If Spain and South Africa can do it, so can the UK. This is a civil and human right, not a religious right.Robert W.
