Liverpool’s gay pride event kicks off
Homotopia, Liverpool’s annual gay pride event kicked off on Monday and will last for the next two weeks.
The event, which is in its second year, will feature gay films, exhibitions, artwork and stage shows.
Homotopia will also feature a host of guest speakers including OutRage! founder Peter Tatchell.
Liverpool City Council leader Mike Storey said: “With such pride in diverse communities and acceptance of all quarters of the community, a celebration of gay culture will provide an interesting insight for both gay and straight people of Liverpool.”
Homotopia organiser Gary Everett said: “The excitement is building. It’ll be a great festival for everyone who visits or takes part – long may it continue.”
More than forty different events will be held during the fortnight long festival that last year attracted thousands of extra visitors for the northern city.
Last month, PinkNews.co.uk reported that Liverpool is considering a gay village to rival neighbour Manchester’s own gay quarter.
